BRAZIL. 640 Reis, ND (1809). Joao as Prince Regent. NGC Good Details--Damaged; Countermark: AU Weak.
KM-300; Gomes-111.03. Countermarked on a 600 Reis of Jose I minted in Rio de Janeiro in 1755 (KM-187). This well-circulated countermarked piece bears a slightly muddled but distinct stamp on the center of its obverse. Despite the fair bit of wear, the surfaces retain traces of luster that give the coin an attractive glow. The eye appeal is further enhanced by deep gray toning. A nice example of this interesting type. To view all items from the Pat Johnson Collection, click
