CHILE. 4 Reales, 1791/0-So DA. Santiago Mint. Charles IV. PCGS VF-35.
KM-38; Cal-850. Three-year transitional type with the bust of Charles III, but in the name of Charles IV. Overdate variety. A wonderful example of this SCARCE issue. The well-struck details are sharp and only trivially marked, consistent with the grade. The fields retain plenty of luster and the surfaces are appealingly toned to a light mottled gray, with hints of rainbow iridescence surrounding the devices. This wholesome survivor is certain to draw attention from collectors seeking this elusive type within the already challenging Chilean series. To view all items from the Pat Johnson Collection, click
