Fonrobert-9842. By F. B. Venegas. Diameter: 36mm. Commemorating the declaration of independence. Obverse: Radiant sun in front of mountains, palm tree over INDEPENDENCIA below; EL ESTADO DE (ligature) CHILE CONSTITUIDO INDEPENDTE Antidot DE (ligature) 1818. Reverse: Pillar supported on either side by arm emerging from cloud, banner with LIBERTAD and radiant star above; IUNTOS Y UNIDOS SEREIS FELICES. This wonderful medal is loaded with elegant symbolism to represent and commemorate Chile's newly-declared independence. This example is lightly handled but quite wholesome, with well-preserved detail and clean surfaces showing only the typical scattered hits and contact marks.
