KM-96. Type IV countermark: "R within circle of dots" in circular incuse; all on an 1860-R Guatemalan 4 Reales (KM-136). This handsome example exhibits cleaning marks on its surfaces, but the cleaning revealed wonderfully preserved details and bright, lustrous fields. The countermark is fully struck and boldly presented, and subtle hints of amber toning around the peripheries enhances the eye appeal. A lovely representative of this interesting type.
