GUATEMALA. 4 Reales, 1773-G. Guatemala Mint; Assayer Pedro Sanchez de Guzman (P). Charles III. PCGS Genuine--Scratch, VF Details.
KM-35.1; Cal-804. A wonderful example from the very brief period of portrait coinage production in Antigua Guatemala, before a series of devastating earthquakes forced a move to a new capital city. This piece displays a handsome portrait of the king on the obverse and nicely detailed crowned arms on the reverse. The noted scratch does not interfere with the devices and is easily overlooked. The surfaces are darkly toned to an elegant charcoal gray, with flashes of luster upon the fields. A pleasing example of the type. To view all items from the Pat Johnson Collection, click
