GUATEMALA. Central American Republic. 4 Reales, ND (1839). PCGS Genuine--Damage, VG Details; Countermark: VF Details.
KM-85.6. Weight: 13.10 gms. Type II countermark on a Potosi Cob 4 Reales. This host coin is heavily circulated and struck on a compact flan, typical for this crude later issue of Bolivian cobs. It does, however, retain a full three-digit date, so the coin can be attributed to 1771. The Guatemalan countermark is visible on the reverse, struck deeply and fully so most of its design remains quite attractive. A small gouge off toward the rim, likely an attempted holing, accounts for the details designation. An interesting and appealing countermarked piece.
