MEXICO. Cob 4 Reales, ND (1543-44). Mexico City Mint; Assayer S (M-S). Carlos & Johanna (Late Series). PCGS Genuine--Corrosion Removed, VF Details.
KM-18; Cal-129. This EXTREMELY RARE assayer is one of the keys to the series. The present example is pleasingly struck on a round planchet. The surfaces exhibit thick black encrustation, typical for this usually sea-salvaged type. Despite the rough surface, the underlying coin is nicely preserved and offers plenty of visible detail. This charming rarity is sure to inspire competitive bidding from advanced collectors of the Mexican series. To view all items from the Pat Johnson Collection, click
