MEXICO. Cob 4 Reales, ND (1572-89)-Mo O. Mexico City Mint. Philip II. PCGS AU-50.
KM-36; Cal-505. Weight: 13.58 gms. Variety with "HIƧPANIARVM" spelling. This elegant 4 Reales piece is well-centered on a pleasingly round planchet. As a result, nearly the entire outer legend is readable. The details are quite sharp and attractive, showing an impressive central Habsburg shield and reverse cross. The surfaces are toned to a mottled dove gray with hints of flashy luster remaining in the protected areas. Some minor strike weakness is noted in a few areas. A great example with both originality and eye appeal. To view all items from the Pat Johnson Collection, click
