MEXICO. Cob 8 Reales, 1610-Mo. Mexico City Mint, Assayer F. Philip III. PCGS AU-50.
KM-44.3; Cal-893. Weight: 27.36 gms. Just one finer example certified by PCGS. This impressive 8 Reales piece displays stunning detail and elegant deep cabinet toning. The obverse shows a strong central shield flanked by a bold mintmark, assayer, and denomination. The reverse offers complete castles and lions contained within unbroken octolobes. Segments of the outer legends appear on both sides, though some areas are flatly struck. Abundant gleaming luster remains on the surfaces, giving the piece a stately glow and touches of warm color. A small spot of verdigris on the reverse is noted for completeness. This is a highly appealing Mexico City crown, certain to please the lucky collector who acquires it.
