MEXICO. Mint Error -- Struck with 4 Reales Obverse Die -- Cob 2 Reales, ND (1598-1613)-Mo. Mexico City Mint. Philip III. PCGS VF-30.
cf. KM-32.1; Cal-Type-125. Weight: 6.79 gms. This intriguing silver minor was struck with an obverse die meant for a 4 Reales planchet. While most obverse detail is missing due to the oversized die, a bold digit "4" is visible to the right of the shield. The reverse shows attractive well-centered castles and lions with plenty of detail. The problem-free surfaces exhibit a pleasing deep old cabinet tone. This charming little piece is sure to interest collectors of mint errors. To view all items from the Pat Johnson Collection, click
