MEXICO. Cob 4 Reales, 1623/2/1-Mo. Mexico City Mint, Assayer D. Philip IV. PCGS EF-40.
KM-38; Cal-1055. Weight: 13.56 gms. This Cob is struck on an irregular and somewhat short planchet that have resulted in some large areas of flatness. The obverse preserves the last digits of the date, however, which is evidently an interesting double overdate. The reverse is rather messy but shows an unbroken cross with castles and lions. A crude but charming piece with attractive even gray toning. To view all items from the Pat Johnson Collection, click
