MEXICO. Cob 4 Reales, 1634-Mo. Mexico City Mint. Philip IV. PCGS VF-20.
KM-38; Cal-Type-275. Weight: 13.88 gms. As this date is not listed for 4 Reales in either reference, this piece was likely struck with an 8 Reales obverse die (Cal-Type 319). The obverse shows the first three digits of the date boldly, with the final digit identifiable despite muddling. The mintmark is quite clear to the left of the central shield. The reverse is weakly struck but retains a presentable central cross. The surfaces, toned to a nice dusty gray, are free from problems. To view all items from the Pat Johnson Collection, click
