MEXICO. Cob 4 Reales, 1637-Mo. Mexico City Mint. Philip IV. PCGS Genuine--Salt Water Damage, Fine Details.
KM-45; Cal-Type-275. Weight: 12.30 gms. As this date is not listed for 4 Reales in either reference, this example may have been struck with an 8 Reales obverse die (Cal-Type 319). This Cob shows the porous and shiny surfaces indicative of a sea-salvaged coin. Despite the rough surfaces, the coin shows the last two digits of the date quite clearly along with the mintmark. The surfaces are colorfully toned, with crimson and golden hues that enhance the visual appeal of this interesting piece. To view all items from the Pat Johnson Collection, click
