MEXICO. Cob 4 Reales, 1644-Mo. Mexico City Mint, Assayer P. Philip IV. PCGS Genuine--Tooled, VF Details.
KM-38; Cal-1065. Weight: 13.53 gms. This well-circulated and somewhat roughly handled Cob shows a clear mintmark and assayer on the obverse alongside a muddled but identifiable date. The reverse is well-centered but weak. The noted tooling takes the form of a single deep scratch on the rim. The surfaces have a few small spots of encrustation and one corner shows some creases from having been bent. The light toning brings some pleasing warm hues that counter this coin's problematic aspects. To view all items from the Pat Johnson Collection, click
