MEXICO. Fantasy Gilt 4 Reales, "1798"-Mo FM (ca. 19th Century). Imitating Mexico City Mint. Charles IV. PCGS SPECIMEN-62.
cf. Cayon (2/2009), 8123. Of uncertain English or French manufacture. This curious gilt-bronze medal is modeled on a 1798 Charles IV 4 Reales piece from the Mexico City mint. It features a fine portrait of the monarch in convincing style. The fields are brilliantly lustrous, and the golden surfaces are richly colored and quite consistent. Some minor contact marks are observed, particularly on the obverse fields, but no base metal peeks through and they do not take away from this eye-catching piece.
