MEXICO. Chihuahua. War of Independence. 8 Reales, 1818-Ca RP. Ferdinand VII. PCGS VF-30.
KM-111.1; Cal-1170; Ramirez-C8.8.1. Struck over an earlier cast silver Chihuahua 8 Reales (KM-123). A typical crude strike with two punches on either side of the host coin's obverse bust. While some attempt appears to have been made to align the dies to the original casting, some die rotation is still evident. This gives the coin a unique look, with a faint ghostly shadow of the cast design on both obverse and reverse. This highly interesting and well-preserved Royalist issue is a great testament to this tumultuous period of Mexican history. To view all items from the Pat Johnson Collection, click here.
