PERU. Cob 4 Reales, 1691-L. Lima Mint; Assayer Leonardo de Rojas Paramo (R). Charles II. PCGS EF-45.
KM-23; Cal-466. Weight: 13.89 gms. An enticingly well-preserved cob struck on a round planchet. Despite areas of flatness, this piece presents some seldom-seen peripheral detail. The obverse displays nearly the whole name "PERU", and the reverse offers the final letters of the monarch's name as well as his ordinal. The coin's finely-detailed central devices include two mintmarks, two assayer's initials, two denominations, and a date. This coin is satisfyingly complete and highly presentable, with attractive gray toning. To view all items from the Pat Johnson Collection, click
