PERU. Cob 4 Reales, 1698-L. Lima Mint; Assayer Francisco Hurtado (H). Charles II. PCGS EF-45.
KM-23; Cal-473. Weight: 13.37 gms. Despite its crude strike, this Lima cob retains attractive surfaces and nice details. The obverse shows both mintmarks, the denomination, and the date in excellent detail. The reverse is rather mangled with multiple weak strikes and areas of flatness; in spite of this, both the mintmark and assayer's initial are clearly visible. The coin is attractively toned with satiny surfaces and hints of deep amber around the devices. To view all items from the Pat Johnson Collection, click
