PERU. Cob 4 Reales, 1751-L. Lima Mint; Assayer Joseph Rodriguez de Carrasa (R). Ferdinand VI. PCGS VF-35.
KM-43; Cal-Type-49. Weight: 13.27 gms. This interesting overdate piece was struck in the final year of cob production in Lima, as the mint would transition to producing only milled coinage starting in 1752. The obverse central devices provide all the important details, including a bold denomination mark, mintmark, assayer's initial, and the three-digit date with a clear overdate, a variety not noted in references. The reverse includes a portion of the seldom-seen peripheral legend. This piece is struck on a charmingly compact flan and offers great eye appeal owing to its well-presented details and attractive toning. To view all items from the Pat Johnson Collection, click
