PERU. Silver Proclamation Medal (4 Reales), 1790. Lima Mint. Charles IV. PCGS AU-58.
Fonrobert-9244; Medina-177; Herrera-153. Diameter: 36mm. Commemorating the yield from the mine at Huancavelica. Obverse: Garlanded, draped, and armored bust right; Reverse: Coat-of-arms of Huancavelica: pyramid consisting of rocky hilltop, surmounted by orb; all within semi floral border. A lovely medal with impressive originality. The devices are well-struck and sharp, enhanced by deep cabinet toning with smoky highlights around the peripheries. Minor friction marks and contact scuffs are noted in the fields and central devices, respectively, which are consistent with the grade. A problem-free and quite attractive example of this VERY RARE type. To view all items from the Pat Johnson Collection, click
