PERU. South Peru. Independence Medallic 4 Reales, 1836. PCGS AU-58.
Fonrobert-9227; Bustamante-936.02. Obverse: Coat-of-arms motif with radiant sunface at center, four stars above and FEDERACION below; Reverse: 9-line inscription. This beautiful and well-preserved medallic issue celebrates the independence of South Peru, which would prove to be short-lived. The medal displays pleasing luster on its matte-gray surfaces. The details are crisp and well-struck, exhibiting only the typical softness on the reverse center and a touch of wear on the sunface. A quite original and problem-free example of this SCARCE and sought-after issue. To view all items from the Pat Johnson Collection, click
