PORTUGAL. 250 Reis, ND (1663). Afonso VI. PCGS EF-40; Countermark: EF Details.
KM-435.3. Type IV countermark on a Portugal 200 Reis of Joao IV (KM-50). This interesting issue shows a bold revaluation countermark applied to a coin of the preceding reign. The host coin is unusually well-struck on a round planchet, as most examples omit much of the outer legend. The piece is attractively toned to a deep rosy gray. A lightly handled and quite attractive example. To view all items from the Pat Johnson Collection, click
