SPAIN. Cob 4 Reales, 1617-To V. Toledo Mint. Philip III. PCGS EF-45.
KM-36.3; Cal-852. Weight: 13.56 gms. This Toledo 4 Reales piece offers great eye appeal. The obverse displays a bold mintmark and assayer, and, while the denomination is partially muddled, nearly the entire monarch's name and ordinal are shown clearly on the outer legend. The reverse is no less impressive, with most of the outer legend intact. The words "HISPANI... REX" are boldly legible, along with the complete date. The central castles and lions are partly flat and doubled, but overall well-detailed and attractive. The coin has wholesome surfaces with traces of luster and light argent toning. A lovely example of the type. To view all items from the Pat Johnson Collection, click
