SPAIN. Valencia. Silver Proclamation Medal, 1789. Charles IV. PCGS MS-64.
Herrera-107. Obverse: bust of Charles IV right. Reverse: Hispania standing left, holding banner and shield of Valencia; on the right, Turia holding oar. A stunning silver medal with brilliant luster and razor-sharp devices. The portrait is well-executed in high relief with intricate details, albeit with minor doubling noted. The reverse presents a handsome scene featuring the personifications of Spain and the river Turia, which runs through the city of Valencia. This near-Gem is delightfully toned with just a hint of rosy color intermingling with light grays. To view all items from the Pat Johnson Collection, click
