SPANISH NETHERLANDS. Brabant. 24 Patards, ND (1666-72). Philip IV. PCGS VF-30; Countermark: EF Details.
cf. Delm-324 (for countermark); KM-18 (for host). Weight: 12.48 gms. Golden Fleece countermark on a 1662-P E Potosi Cob 4 Reales. This intriguing piece was counterstamped with the Golden Fleece symbol to attest its weight and purity for circulation in the Spanish Netherlands. The stamp is applied to the cross side, quite boldly by the standards of the issue. The host coin displays the monarch's name and ordinal with near completeness along with the denomination, two mintmarks, two assayers, and the full four-digit date on the pillars side. With attractive old cabinet toning and plenty of detail, this piece serves as a desirable example of this interesting type. To view all items from the Pat Johnson Collection, click
