Adams/Chao-FCv-18-Y (R-5); M/G-191. Diameter: 32.4mm. On the capture of Porto Bello (in what is now Panama) between Spain and Great Britain. Obverse: three-quarters portrait of Admiral Vernon facing left, Fort Chagre behind; Reverse: six ships approaching Porto Bello. A charming medal with a dynamic portrait of Vernon in high relief and a richly detailed reverse scene. The surfaces are toned to dark brown, with sandy-colored spots that account for the designation.
