Lec-2. This Medal was designed by Roty to celebrate the inauguration of the construction of the Panama Canal. The Canal remained unfinished until 1914, when the mosquitos carrying Yellow Fever could be eliminated. De Lesseps succeeded in building the Suez Canal, but failed in Panama. Nonetheless, a striking Medal with a diameter of 34 mm. picturing the apocryphal figures of Atlantic, Pacific, and France standing together on the obverse.
