PTOLEMAIC EGYPT. Ptolemy I Soter, 323-283 B.C. AR Tetradrachm, Sidon Mint. NGC VG.
cf. Pr-3498. Struck in the name of Alexander III (the Great) of Macedon. Obverse: Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin; Reverse: Zeus seated left on throne, holding eagle and scepter; ΣI below throne. A coin that has been circulated to the point of heavy effacement, it is impossible to fully attribute this piece, though the below throne monogram points very strongly to an origin at the Sidon Mint. A more affordable example of the type.
Estimate: $60 - $100
