GREAT BRITAIN. Slavery Emancipation in the West Indies White Metal Medal, 1838. NGC MS-62.
BHM-1879. By T. Halliday. Diameter: 40mm. Obverse: WE ARE MEN AND BRETHREN / EMANCIPATION AUG.1.1838, a man shakes the hand of one of his liberated slaves, two other slaves and a child around; Reverse: THEIR NAMES SHALL BE HAD IN REMEMBERENCE WHEN THE OPRESSOR'S WILL PERISH WITH THEIR DUST, list of 8 names in wreath. Bright with a fresh, flashy appearance to the fields and light pewter gray patina across the high points. The medal is holed at 12 o'clock, creating a suspension loop that may or may not be original. Intricately engraved, historically significant, and relating to the abolition of slavery, we expect this highly desirable and SCARCE medal will a prized addition to the next collection it enters.

Estimate: $200 - $400
