IRELAND. Gilt Copper Penny, 1805. Soho (Birmingham) Mint. George III. PCGS PROOF-65 Deep Cameo.
S-6620; KM-148.1A. Struck in copper gilt with engrailed edge. Incredibly dazzling and vibrant, this entrancing issue features spectacular Deep Cameo contrast uninterrupted by tone or haze. The sharp distinction between mirrored fields and generously satin devices would be more at home on a modern Proof coin than a two-century-old gilt copper. Closer inspection reveals no marks or spots, making eye appeal exceptional for the Gem grade level. Even the most patient and deep-pocketed numismatists are unlikely ever to top this example in terms of preservation and striking quality.
Estimate: $1500 - $2000
