MALAYA. Imitative 2 Stuivers, "1791" (ca. 1834-36). Birmingham (Soho) Mint. NGC MS-64.
cf. KM-48 (for prototype); Prid-13; SS-18. Plain border variety. Struck in German silver at the Birmingham Mint, this coin imitates the earlier Netherlands East Indies type from Holland and was intended for circulation in British Malaya and modern day Singapore. This otherwise faithful imitation is distinguishable from the Dordrecht prototype by the lack of a dot after "HOLLANDIA" on the reverse. The present example of this highly interesting and SCARCE type is in wonderful condition with abundant luster and pleasing toning.
Estimate: $200 - $300
