This Emergency issue was struck 30 October 1578 during the siege of Deventer with eagle countermark within shaped indent on the obverse. The countermark is bold, though slightly uneven on a nicely preserved lovely looking host. The surfaces display an attractive rich brown patina with hints of original mint red in the protected areas adding to its pleasing appearance.
The States General forces of the United Netherlands under Count van Rennenberg was trying to retake the city from the German regiment fighting for Spain.
