PORTUGAL. Escudo (1600 Reis), 1776. Lisbon Mint. Jose I. NGC AU-55.
Fr-103; KM-245.1. NGC Census: 1, none finer. Delightful yellow to reddish-copper surfaces are fully original and show barely a touch of handling in the fields. Near complete mint luster blazes, especially in the peripheral regions. Some flan adjustment marks run across the portrait (as made), no doubt the result of an effort to bring the weight down to its intended amount before striking. A difficult coin that RARELY presents itself at this Choice About Uncirculated level, and one not to be missed by the specialist.
Estimate: $500 - $750
