FRANCE. Strasbourg Cathedral Bronze Medal, 1861. Geerts (Ixelles) Mint. NGC MS-64 Brown.
Ross-M237 (R2); van Hoydonck-185; Reinecke-45. By J. Wiener. Diameter: 59mm. Obverse: Perspective view of the cathedral exterior from the north-west, highlighting its ubiquitous single northern tower; Reverse: Perspective view of the interior, looking down the nave toward the west from a vantage point just to the right of center; the western rose window is at the focal point. Deep brown surfaces highlight this impressive specimen, with a rather enchanting and bewitching reverse design.

Strasbourg remained the official spelling until 1870 (following the Franco-Prussian War), when the German "Strassburg" prevailed until 1918 (following World War I).

Estimate: $200 - $400
