GERMANY. Cologne (Koln). Glockengasse Synagogue Bronze Medal, 1861. Geerts (Ixelles) Mint. PCGS SPECIMEN-63.
Ross-M239 (R3); van Hoydonck-182; Reinecke-61. By J. Wiener. Obverse: Exterior perspective view of the synagogue building; Reverse: Interior perspective view of the synagogue. Part of the "big three" in this spectacular series, along with the Hagia Sophia and St. Isaac's in St. Petersburg, this VERY RARE and highly desired representation of the synagogue in Cologne is marked departure from all others, representing the only such instance of a Jewish place of worship being featured. Somewhat mottled red-brown surfaces, with great overall detail, especially on the interior view of the reverse.
Estimate: $400 - $600
