Gildepenningen - Amsterdam 1683/84 - Mother model for the preparation of molds for making entrance medals of the Hortus Medicus in Amsterdam, presumably for chirurgijns and designed by Aernout Nachtegael (WK.6.5, JMP 100 (2013) 176 II.1) - Obv. Banderol with COLL-M-CHIRURG Death with scythe and hourglass on altar / Rev. HORTUS-MEDICUS Vase of flowers decorated with the Amsterdam coat of arms between 16-84, on a crescent-shaped cartouche - carved boxwood 35x4 mm 2,38 grams die position 12 o'clock - XF - Extremely rare - NB The carving seems to correspond in detail with the images on existing medals of this type. By pressing the model in brussels earth, molds were made to cast the guild medals. It is a miracle that this model has survived. National heritage !
