Provenance The MacDonald collection. A highly attractive rendition of this classic Matthew Young restrike from the last 1820's, rendered with a wholly precise attention to detail that proves enviable to this day. Burns points out that the reverse of this piece celebrates James' institution of the Order of the Thistle, though he was, in fact, only reviving an ancient Scottish Order.
