PLANTAGENET. Henry III. 1216-1272. AR Penny (17mm, 1.51 g, 9h). Long Cross coinage, class 1b/2 mule. London mint; Nicole, moneyer. Struck 1247. (star in crescent) hЄ(NR)IVS RЄX (AN)G, crowned facing head / HIC OLЄ OHЄ LVH, voided long cross, with central pellet; triple pellets in quarters. C&T L90/L84 (for obv./rev.); North –; SCBC 1360. Toned, faint porosity. VF. Extremely rare reverse legend.

From the Arthur M. Fitts III Collection. Ex Dix Noonan Webb 90 (9 December 2010), lot 896 (there as a contemporary imitation).

The cataloger of this coin in the DNW sale considered it to be a contemporary imitation, likely from Lippe in Germany, based on the unusual reverse. C&T, however, records this reverse legend in the Brussels Hoard, though only form two examples and not paired with this obverse.
