PLANTAGENET. Edward I. 1272-1307. AR Penny (18mm, 1.42 g, 3h). New coinage, class 10ab2. Newcastle mint. Struck mid 1301-circa early 1302. Crowned facing bust, lacking hair / Long cross pattée; three pellets in quarters. SCBI 39 (North), 506 = BNJ XXI, p. 211, no. 14 (coin); North 1038/1; SCBC 1428. Toned. Fine. An extremely rare engraver's error, with the portrait of the king lacking hair.
