China Yokohama Specie Bank Limited, Tientsin 100 Dollars 1.4.1937 Pick S740s S/M#H31 Specimen PMG Choice Extremely Fine 45. While Specimen of banknotes are routinely offered in auction, they are seldom accompanied by corroborating paperwork explaining their purpose. This high denomination from the desirable Yokohama Specie Bank began life as an issued banknote, and after two decades, it was converted to a Specimen with a variety of overprints, stamps, and cancellations. It was sent, along with two other Specimen, to the Banque de l'Indo-chine for reference in 1937. A typed signed letter and original envelope are included in this lot. Historic, important, and illuminating.
