Japan Bank of Japan 5 Yen ND (1886) Pick 23 PMG Extremely Fine 40. The iconic design, printed mostly in pastel colors is absolutely striking on this rare issue. While the 1 Yen is occasionally seen, this 5 Yen denomination is much more scare as only fourteen examples are registered in the PMG Population Report. In the 1885 series, this is the only denomination where the portrait of Daikoku is portrayed on the back. Banknotes of this series were designed by Italian engraver Eduardo Chiossone. They are the first series issued after the Bank of Japan was founded in 1882. https://currency.ha.com/itm/world-currency/japan-bank-of-japan-5-yen-nd-1886-pick-23-pmg-extremely-fine-40/a/4040-23402.s?type=DA-DMC-CoinArchivesCurrency-WorldPaperMoney-4040-12062022 HID08706262019 © 2022 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
