KINGS OF MACEDON. Antigonos II Gonatas, 277/6-239 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 31 mm, 17.15 g, 11 h), Amphipolis or Pella, circa 252/1-246. Horned head of Pan to left, wearing goat skin around his neck and with lagobolon behind; all within the center of a Macedonian shield adorned with stars and crescents. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ - ANTIΓONOΥ Athena Alkidemos striding left, holding shield with her left hand and brandishing a thunderbolt in her right; to left, facing Macedonian helmet with transverse crest; in inner right field, monogram. SNG Alpha Bank -. SNG Berry -. SNG Copenhagen -. SNG München -. TEA Period II, 2b (this coin, O 02/R 02). Extremely rare. A beautifully toned example of excellent style with an impressive pedigree. Minor marks, otherwise, good very fine.
