SASANIAN KINGS. Hormizd V or VI, 631/2. Drachm (Silver, 32 mm, 4.06 g, 3 h), 'AYLAN' or 'AYRAN' (Shush), RY 2 = AD 632. Draped bust of Hormizd VI to right, wearing elaborate mural crown with frontal crescent, two wings and star set on crescent; behind head, AFZUT GDH ('may his kingship increase' in Pahlawi); before head, WHLMZD ('Hormizd' in Pahlawi). Rev. Fire altar flanked by two attendants; in upper left field, six-pointed star; in upper right field, crescent; to left, date; to right, 'AYLAN' or 'AYRAN' (name of the mint in Pahlawi). SSCT -. A rare mint for this ruler. Good very fine.
