SICILY. Syracuse. Second Democracy, 466-405 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 17.25 g, 2 h), circa 450-440. Charioteer driving quadriga walking to right, holding goad in his right hand and reins in his left; above, Nike flying right to crown the horses; in exergue, ketos to right. Rev. ΣYRΑΚΟΣ-Ι-Ο-Ν Diademed head of Arethusa to right, wearing pendant earring and necklace; around, four dolphins swimming right. Boehringer 534 (V273/R375). SNG Lockett 937 (same dies). Nicely toned. Some die rust on the obverse and with faint cleaning scratches, otherwise, good very fine.
