John VIII Palaeologus, 1425-1448. Half Stavraton (Silver, 18 mm, 3.45 g, 7 h), Constantinopolis. Nimbate bust of Christ facing, raising his right hand in benediction and holding book of Gospels, flanked by IC - XC; in outer margin, small pellets. Rev. +IⲰANHC BACIΛЄVC O ΠΑΛЄΟΛΟΓOC Nimbate and draped bust of John VIII facing; to left and right, pellet. DOC 1751ff. SB 2565. Struck slightly off center and with minor areas of weakness, otherwise, about extremely fine.
