Johannes, imperial koubikoularios and ek prosopou of the Dromos of Thrakesion, 10th century. Seal (Lead, 25 mm, 7.41 g, 12 h). +KЄ ROHΘЄI TⲰ CⲰ ΔOVΛ, / IC - XC / NI-KA
Patriarchal cross on steps, with floral ornaments springing from base; in exergue, globule. Rev. +IⲰAN, / R' K૪RIKΛ/OVAP, S EK Π/POCⲰΠ TOV Δ/POMOV T, ΘP/AKICH in six lines. Unpublished in the standard references. Cracks along the channel on the obverse and a scrape on the reverse, otherwise, good very fine.
From a European collection, acquired before 2021.
The department of the dromos was mainly responsible for the road system and the postal service. Aside from the central dromos, operating from the capital, there were several additional provincial 'dromoi'. Our seal's owner was an official of the dromos of the Thrakesion theme.
