ISLAMIC, Umayyad Caliphate. temp. Mu'awiya I ibn Abi Sufyan, AH 41-60 / AD 661-680. Drachm (Silver, 36 mm, 4.00 g, 3 h), Arab-Sasanian, anonymous Khosrau type, BYŠ (Bishapur), AH 50 = AD 670. Draped bust of Khosrau II to right, wearing elaborate mural crown; behind head, AFZUT GDH ('may his kingship increase' in Pahlawi); before head, HWSRWD ('Khosrau' in Pahlawi); in outer margin, 'bism Allah' ('In the name of Allah') and 'Rabbi' ('my Lord') in Kufic; between 'bism Allah' and 'Rabbi', countermark of Senmurv. Rev. Fire altar with ribbons flanked by two attendants; in upper field to left, six-pointed star; in upper field to right, crescent; to left, date in Pahlawi; to right, BYŠ (name of the mint in Pahlawi). Album 5. SICA I, 133. Walker, Arab-Sasanian, p. 21, 33. Some scratches and with a minor flan crack, otherwise, about extremely fine.

The countermark shows a senmurv (simurgh), a mythical bird in Persian mythology with the body of a peacock, the head of a dog and the claws of a lion.
