ISLAMIC, Umayyad Caliphate. temp. 'Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan, AH 65-86 / AD 685-705. Pashiz (Bronze, 17 mm, 0.44 g, 9 h), anonymous Arab-Sasanian type, Kavad-Khurra, circa AH 70s-90s = ca. AD 690s-710s. Draped bust resembling Khosrau II to right, wearing elaborate mural crown; behind head, AFZUT GDH ('may his kingship increase' in Pahlawi); before head, HWSRWD ('Khosrau' in Pahlawi). Rev. ABAD (or AZAD) KAVAD-KHURRA ('May Kavad-Khurra be prosperous [or free]' in Pahlawi) Male figure standing right, in military attire, wearing elaborate headdress and holding spear pointed at both ends in his left hand. Album O46. Gyselen 109. Very rare. Rough on the obverse and with minor edge chipping, otherwise, about very fine.
