KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III 'the Great', 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 29 mm, 16.99 g, 1 h), Amphipolis, struck under Antigonos II Gonatas, circa 277/6-275. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. AΛEΞANΔPOY Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; in field to left and below throne, monogram. Hersh, Additions -. Price -, cf. 607 (M below throne). An apparently unpublished variety. Well struck in high relief and of beautiful early Hellenistic style. Minor marks, otherwise, good extremely fine.
