SICILY. Syracuse. Timoleon and the Third Democracy, 344-317 BC. Stater (Silver, 20 mm, 8.54 g, 7 h), Corinthian standard. Pegasos flying left. Rev. ΣYPAKOΣIΩN Head of Athena to right, wearing Corinthian helmet. Calciati 7. HGC 2, 1400. SNG ANS 508. A well centered and beautifully toned example. Minor scratches on the reverse, otherwise, good very fine.
From a Swiss collection, formed before 2005.
Intriguingly, the reverse die of this coin so closely matches that of Calciati 92 (an issue from Ambrakia) in style that they must be the product of the same engraver.
